Great experiment to live your life by.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things are connected.
-Chief Seattle-
Dear friends,
Thank you for considering to watch this video about my solution
to our current challenge
as world citizens.
There are many great videos in this forum and teams of people who made most of them happen, fulfilling all the criteria for the competition.
For me it was an amazing experience and very soul exposing to make this piece.
I borrowed a camera, got a 5 minute lesson in how not to break it (thank you Djubaya). Got a 2 hour download of editing 101, a trial version of studio 10, a few frantic phone consultations (thank you Clay) and completed my adventure in filmmaking 101.
Thirty hours before the deadline, with reckless encouragement (thank you Kelley) I began filming myself, editing and posting my little solution.
Mine is a little different in that I’m not talking about what can be done but about what needs to be created to prepare for the future. This isn’t a “50 things you can do to save the planet kind of checklist” this is about a new type of training program, earth warrior training, it knows no boundaries, just skills, to be gentle and effective with the earth while teaching and helping others to adapt to the rapidly changing times.
I am fortunate to live in a part of the world where I am surrounded by many who already possess these skills. It’s a matter of distilling this knowledge into a form that can be readily absorbed and broadcast far and wide as baseline knowledge and then adapted to the particular bioregion/microclimate.
Richard Heinberg, a professor and Peak Oil authority recently gave a talk at the EcoFarm Conference ‘07 saying that we need 40 million new small scale farmers in North America alone to be able to feed people in a scenario where oil is $100/barrel and we can’t ship food 1500 miles any more (the average distance food travels these days).
Where are we going to get people like this if there is no place for them to learn food growing and all the complementary skills for living lightly?
We need to create places that teach people these skills on a bioregional/watershed scale.
We need to have started doing this years ago.
We haven’t.
We need to start NOW!

Thank you.
