Farmer Shannon Brines discusses Brines Farm motivation to decrease energy that goes into every component of the food system - growing, harvesting, packaging, transportation, seller storage/buyer storage, preparation - resulting in better, fresher food that also has a smaller footprint: a win-win situation. The video discusses crops harvested during the winter and encourages people to try to grow their own food even in a cold climate trying similar passive solar techniques with a backyard greenhouse, cold-frame, balcony garden, window sill garden, or city rooftop garden. The video references the Brines Farm website brines.org which has resources and references for people interested in trying to grow their own delicious food.

Great film. The importance of "reducing the carbon" in our food is a paramount component to all sustainability efforts. Increasing the production of (clean, organic) food for local consumption is a vital tool for economic develpoment, public health and national defence.

this is the modern day equivalent of the "victory garden" the impact is environmentally and economically multi-dimensional if only our politicians and "pillars of industry" would take the time to attempt to comprehend all of the benefits...
