How to Enter
Prior to entering your submission, you will be required to click on the "I accept and agree to the Official Rules” button on the Convenient Truths Contest Upload Page.
Once you have uploaded your video(s) and filled out the entry form information, you will then be required to click on the submit button. At that point, you will be entered into the Contest. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY February 28, 2007.
Criteria:
An Inconvenient Truth presented a problem; we want you to show us how to solve this problem. Create an actionable, inspiring follow-up to the movie.
Videos can discuss various components of daily life including transportation, home and garden, work, recreation, etc., and in this, the subsequent actions being taken to reduce one's carbon footprint.
Videos that wish to be eligible for the EPIC International Prize can discuss these same components (transprtation, home and garden, work, etc.) but must address issues of conscious consumerism and its relationship to global warming.
However, your video(s) must comply with the following:
- They should be no less than 1 minute and no longer than 2 minutes in length.
- Videos must be in .mov, .wmv, .mp4, .3g2, or .3gp compressed video at 320x240. Mobile phone video can be uploaded at its original, smaller dimensions. Videos may not exceed 200MB in size. In the event of broadcast, all finalists must be prepared to edit a high resolution version and submit all relevant paperwork in regards to clearance of all elements included in the video submission(s).
- Entrants that wish to enter the EPIC International Prize category must clearly state or subtitle their name and "EPIC International Prize" at the start of their video.
- Any video that does not comply with the Official Rules (as defined here) will not be eligible.
In addition, the video(s) may NOT contain:
- Any copyrighted material not in the public domain or for which you have not obtained the rights to use;
- 3rd party voice-overs for which you have not obtained the rights to use;
- 3rd party stock photography or artwork for which you have not obtained the rights to use;
- Nudity, lewd or vulgar behavior; offensive language and/or gestures
- From March 1, 2007 to March 14, 2007, all eligible videos are open to ratings and the Top 20 will be moved into a separate category and promoted. John Fluevog will solely select the winner of the EPIC International Prize.
- From March 16, 2007 to March 31, 2007, our panel of judges will then narrow down these Top 20 videos to their Top 10 favorite videos.
- From April 2, 2007 to April 9, 2007, judges, visitors, a combination of both, or a single guest judge will select the Third, Second, and Grand Prize winners.
- Inspiring (Does it make me want to do something?)
- Pragmatic (Does it provide me answers, tools so I can take action?)
- Compelling (Does it make me laugh, make me sad, make me angry?)
Winner Selection:
Videos complying with the Official Rules will be posted on the Web Site. Contest Winners will be determined as follows.
Beginning at 12:00:01 pm Noon EST on November 21, 2006 and continuing until 11:00:00 pm EST on February 28, 2007, visitors will be able to log on to the Web Site and view all eligible video entries.
Visitors and judges will select using the criteria listed below:
At the discretion of the Sponsors, such criteria may not be given equal weight.
Winners will be notified by email within 7 days of completion of contest and will be required to respond to such notification within 10 days of notification. (Notification and repsonse to notification of winner will be much faster for the EPIC International Prize. This date is to-be-determined.)

One Grand Prize winner will receive: An all-expense paid trip to the Alaskan wilderness from Alaskan Wildland Adventures, travel gear from Patagonia, and carbon offsets for the full trip, provided by DriveNeutral. The approximate TRV ($US) for this prize is $8,000.
One Second Prize winner will receive: Green home makeover materials by Ecohome Improvement, eco-friendly home products from Seventh Generation, Inc., and home carbon offsets for one year, provided by DriveNeutral. The approximate TRV ($US) for this prize is $4,100.
One Third Prize winner receives: Two solar bicycles from Thera-P-Products, two Voltaic solar backpacks, and one, year-long, Zipcar membership. The approximate TRV ($US) for this prize is $4,000.
One winner of the EPIC International Prize receives: CAD $5,000, one Jorg & Olif citybike, John Fluevog shoes, and one round-trip, economy airline ticket to visit EPIC Vancouver for the purpose of being awarded the aforementioned prizes. The approximate TRV ($CAD) for this prize is $6,100.
The Top 10 winners will also receive a medley of sustainable prizes including carbon offsets for one care, for one year, a bamboo skateboard, a solar charger, a repurposed bag, eco-friendly products, both the DVD and book versions of An Inconvenient Truth, and Laurie David's book, Stop Global Warming: The Solution Is You!

Note: Those who enter the EPIC International Prize category, are only in the running for the EPIC International Prize and not the Grand, Second, Third and Top 10 prizes. Just as those who don't enter the EPIC International Prize category are not eligible for the EPIC International Prize.
